Last week we began the discussing growth and the ways we can help each other grow. The first way we can help each other grow is by affirming each other’s worth. This is done with acceptance, with attention, and with appreciation.
The second way we help others grow is by praying for each other’s growth. In the 17th chapter of the gospel of John we see Jesus praying for His disciples and us as well. He prays that we will know Him. He prays for our protection and our unity. He prays that we would have a full measure of joy. He prays that we would be set apart (sanctified) by truth. And finally He prays that the love the Heavenly Father has for Jesus would be known by us as well. The things Jesus talked to His father about are the things we could be petitioning the Father about for our loved ones. Praying this way for others will certainly change us.As you read the following scriptures, take a moment and pray.
“I pray… you’ll be able to feel and understand, how long, wide, deep, and high Christ’s love really is; and to experience this love for yourselves…” Eph. 3:18-19 (LB).
Who can you think of that needs to know this? Who needs to “feel and understand, how long, wide, deep, and high Christ’s love really is”? Stop and take a moment to pray for them. Maybe it’s our children, our politicians, ourselves, or our spouses.“I pray God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace while you trust in him.”Romans 15:13 (NCV)
Who do you know who needs hope, joy and/or peace? Who needs the strength to trust God in a trial or tribulation of life?Ephesians 1:17 (GW) says “I pray… God would give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation…”
Who comes to your mind that needs a special dose of wisdom for their particular difficult circumstance?“I pray the Lord will guide you to be as loving as God and as patient as Christ.” 2 Th. 3:5 (CEV)
Who needs to be loving and patient that you can pray for this morning?“I pray God… may strengthen you with power through his spirit.” Eph. 3:16 (NIV)
Who, that you love needs to be strengthened with God’s power for living? Most of us are acquainted with praying for ourselves as we sense the need for prayer. Add the prayers above and you’ll see others grow simply by praying for them.
