How’s that working for ya?

January 23, 2017

I have a very special journal that I bought months ago, ready to crack open on January 1st of the new year.  I sat down on day one and wrote in all my important appointments, birthdays to remember, special events.  And then I got started on my goals.

I have a list of personal goals – more date nights with my husband, special activities to do with my girls, fun things to do with my parents, family and friends.

I have a list of professional goals – that’s a long list!  I have a list of spiritual goals – another long list!

Y’all, I have so much that I want to accomplish this year and my head was spinning with where to start.  (Yes, even coaches like me can get overwhelmed at times.)  That is, until I stepped back and put a few checks and balances in place.  And my #1 check point is my accountability partner.

Why we need accountability

Accountability – this is a word that can produce a host of emotions from fear to avoidance to relief.  For me, my accountability partner is a relief for me.  Sitting down with her helps me flesh out my goals and keep them on track.

The concept of accountability partnership isn’t new.  The idea was even highlighted in the Bible:

“Two are better than one, because they have good pay for their work.  For if one of them falls, the other can help him up. But it is hard for the one who falls when there is no one to lift him up.”  Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NLV)

Yes, two ARE better than one.  It is statistically proven that accountability partnership with regular meetings improves your probability of achieving a goal to 95%!  Yes!  Conversely, if you simply write down your goals but don’t have a checkpoint for accountability you only have a 25% chance of reaching that goal.

Now, for me, I will take a 95% chance over a 25% chance any day.  And accountability is such an easy way to keep on track. Yes, it does require you to work and prepare, but aren’t you supposed to be doing that anyway?

Do you have goals that you would like to accomplish in 2017?  Are you going it alone?  How’s that working for ya?

It’s time to step up your game and take bigger steps toward your goals.  And that starts with accountability partnership. Let me be your accountability partner.  It’s easy to get started.  Give me a call or shoot me an email so we can get started today!
